December already?!

Its flown by the last few weeks. We've finished the Amy Mac video which you can see  below; also the  little job for the Futureheads and the Toyota commercial is finished too. Recently I have been working on various edits; a short film for Carrera Sunglasses and have been filming a corporate event at The Grove for Edmiston Super Yacht Brokers.

Tomorrow we are doing five live videos for the band The Joy Formidable, I really like them. 3 piece band from Wales but based here in London. I'm hopefully going back to Jersey next week to catch some waves and sing sweet love songs to the seaweed at Plemont.

BUG-PHIL

Last night I helped Phil Tidy with his BUG event. They want to make a load of youtube links for a BUG music video playlist. BUG is an event hosted by Adam Buxton at the BFI on the southbank every month showcasing the worlds best music videos. If you have a chance to go and watch, DO its very funny and very good for your mind.

Sunderland Futureheads

I got a last minute call to go and film The Futureheads in Sunderland. It was through a company called Big Life Management who I have done various FX based videos for. Like this one for a band that no longer exists called 'FLYKKILLER':

So we filmed them at various  areas of industrial neglect  around Sunderland. What was amazing there is that they have all these incredible locations open to the public and free. If you ever want to go and make a film about a bleak post apocolyptic future, Sunderland is your place, not the town but the areas around it.

The band were friendly and we managed to get the filming done for 1pm. The film is going to be edited to 80s stock footage and used for the internet.

Valencia!

Well I got a call to do the B-Unit on a car promotional film/viral in Valencia. So flew over last Friday and left the cold miserable skies of Enlgand for the 27 degree sunny skies of Spain (yes 27 degress in November).

I was shooting on the Canon 5D whilst the main unit were using the new ARRI Alexa which apprently is a red killer and depending how well it does ARRI may stop producing film cameras so the rumour goes.
On the second day they had a Russian Arm to do the cool car shots. It was a small crew but we had a lot of fun blocking whole streets off to get our shots. The client wanted no other cars or even people in any of the shots which in a city of 3 million is pretty hard going.

I took the following photos with my iPhone using a tiltshift application...

Frankfurter

Back from Frankfurt today after a mad few days following Amy Macdonald on her European tour. She had some mental gigs, 14000 at the one in Zurich. We were shooting on 5d and 7d Canon DSLR with Zeiss Prime lenses. It looked really good, we hired a red rock rig but it was too cumbersome and time-consuming to keep resetting up.

I tried to not mention anything to do with the Nazis and did pretty well on that front. Seriously though Germany is an amazing palce. The people are so cool and friendly.

Zurich to Hamburg

I'm sat in a hotel room at 9am on a sunday morning staring out of the window onto the griffiti ridden streets of Hamburg where a man is actually eating a hamburger. So the Amy Macdonald tour went ahead and we flew to Zurich where she performed to a sold out crowd of13000. I remember when we first did a video for Amy years ago and its been cool to see her develop into the artist she is today.

We drove 9hrs yesterday from Zurich to Hamburg. The road all seem to blend into one long no speedlimit autobahn. The no speed limit works in Germany because there roads are no where nearly as congested as ours. So 9hrs of talking shit, mainly revolving around German accents.

We are off to Frankfurt tomorrow and then back to London...

I'm a freelance film director and editor. I'm based in London, living with my wife, brother and his girlfriend. Hopefully tomorrow we are off to Zurich to film Amy Macdonald's new music video. It is a little touch and go though depending on when the label sign off. The idea is to document the new European tour.

I have always been obsessed by UFOs. I have yet to see one so I tried to imagine what it be like to see one using my photos and 3D models of spaceships. Its early days but I think they are quite fun. It be weird if UFOs where just a normal part of life. You look out of a plane window and there in the clouds just chilling is an alien spaceship.

I think what it is, is that we as a species are lonely, imagine if we are the only intelligent beings?
